A group of 177 Bangladeshi nationals is returning home from Benghazi, Libya, facilitated by the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, in collaboration with Libyan authorities and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The embassy confirmed this on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
Of the returnees, 25 were detained at the Ganfouda Detention Center in Benghazi, while the remaining 152, facing precarious conditions in eastern Libya and Benghazi, voluntarily opted to return. Sixteen of the migrants were reported to be physically unwell.
The group is traveling on Burak Air (Flight UZ222) and is expected to arrive in Dhaka at 6:15 AM on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
Ambassador Major General Abul Hasnat Muhammad Khairul Bashar met the returnees at Benina International Airport to bid them farewell, accompanied by the embassy’s Minister (Political) and Minister (Labor).
