Court Withdraws Stay on Chinmoy Krishna Das’ Bail, Hearing Set for Sunday

Dhaka, April 30, 2025

The Chamber Court has withdrawn its earlier order staying the bail of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a former ISKCON leader, in a sedition case. The matter is scheduled for a fresh hearing on Sunday, May 4.
On Wednesday evening, the Chamber Court, presided over by Justice Md. Rezaul Haque, revoked the stay order on Chinmoy’s bail. Earlier in the day, a High Court bench comprising Justices Atowar Rahman Khan and Ali Reza granted bail to Chinmoy following the final hearing of a rule issued on his bail petition. However, within hours, the state appealed to the Chamber Court to stay the bail order, which was initially granted. The stay was later withdrawn within an hour.
The sedition case stems from an incident on October 25 last year when a large gathering of the Sanatani community took place in Chattogram. On October 31, a case was filed against Chinmoy and 18 others, accusing them of disrespecting the national flag. Subsequently, on November 22, another major rally led by Chinmoy was held in Rangpur. He was arrested in Dhaka on November 25 in connection with the sedition case. The following day, a Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate rejected his bail plea and ordered his imprisonment.
On February 4, the High Court issued a rule questioning why Chinmoy should not be granted bail. The hearing was fixed for April 30, and after concluding arguments, the court declared the rule absolute, granting him bail.
The case has drawn significant attention, and all eyes are now on the upcoming hearing on Sunday.
