Mohammad Ejaz, Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), has declared that battery-powered rickshaws will not be allowed to operate on Dhaka’s main roads. Only standardized and approved models of battery-powered rickshaws (e-rickshaws) will be permitted on the city’s internal roads.

Ejaz stated that a high-level committee will be formed soon to formulate a standard model and policy guidelines for battery-powered rickshaws.
The meeting also discussed a proposal by BUET’s BEPRC EzyBike Project for the type-approval and registration of a new standardized, low-speed, three-wheeled e-rickshaw model. Manufacturers were called upon to develop prototypes based on this proposal.
Key attendees included DNCC Chief Executive Officer Abu Saeed Md. Kamruzzaman, Chief Engineer Brigadier General Md. Moin Uddin, DNCC General Manager (Transport) Abdullah Al Masud, and representatives from battery-powered rickshaw manufacturing firms.
