Dhaka, April 28, 2025: Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organizer of the southern region of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), referred to NCP convener Nahid Islam as the "future Prime Minister of Bangladesh" in a Facebook post congratulating him on his birthday.
In a post shared on his verified Facebook profile on Monday afternoon, Hasnat uploaded a picture with Nahid and wrote, “Happy Birthday. Bangladesh’s future Prime Minister, Nahid Islam.”
This is not the first time Nahid has been praised in such a manner. Earlier, Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser, made a similar remark about Nahid on Facebook. Alam described Nahid as “one of the sharpest political minds in the country’s recent history,” noting that at just 26 years old, Nahid had already led a popular uprising against a brutal dictator. He added, “He will remain a significant figure in the country’s politics for decades to come. And Allah knows, one day he might become the Prime Minister of the country.”
Nahid Islam was a key coordinator of the anti-discrimination movement, which led to the July Revolution, forcing then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign. He served as the Information and Broadcasting Adviser in the interim government from August 2024 to February 2025. Later, he resigned from his advisory role to establish the National Citizens’ Party (NCP).
