Dhaka, April 27, 2025: Hundreds of government job aspirants blocked Shahbagh intersection in the capital on Sunday evening, demanding reforms in the Public Service Commission (PSC) and presenting an eight-point list of demands. The blockade halted traffic in the area, causing significant disruptions.
The protesters, who began their demonstration around 6:30 PM, marched from Dhaka University’s Raju Sculpture to Shahbagh, forming a human chain that stopped all vehicular movement. Chanting slogans like “July’s pledge, PSC reform” and “If questions leak, why study for twelve months?”, the job seekers vowed to continue the blockade until their demands are met.
The agitation follows a hunger strike initiated by several aspirants at the base of Raju Sculpture on April 24. Sunday marked the deadline of an ultimatum issued to the government for PSC reforms. Their demands include fresh preparation of the 46th BCS written exam questions, stringent measures to prevent question leaks, resolution of recruitment delays, and conducting the 46th BCS written exam only after publishing the 44th BCS results.
Additional demands include expediting answer script evaluations, ensuring impartiality by allowing candidates to review scripts at the commission, and issuing an ordinance to increase PSC member count from 25 to 30.
