Starlink Secures 10-Year License to Operate in Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has granted two licenses to Starlink Services Bangladesh Limited, enabling the company to provide internet services through Non-Geostationary Satellite Orbit (NGSO) systems for a period of 10 years. The licenses were formally handed over on Tuesday, April 29, at the BTRC headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The first license, the "Non-Geostationary Satellite Orbit Operator License," was issued by BTRC’s Licensing Division, allowing Starlink to conduct commercial operations in Bangladesh. The second, the "Radio Communication Operators License," was issued by BTRC’s Spectrum Division, permitting the company to use authorized radio frequencies, import, and operate wireless equipment and related accessories for internet service provision.
The licensing ceremony saw the first license handed over to Rebecca Slick Hunter, Director of Starlink Global Licensing and Market Aviation, by Lt. Col. Syed Md. Taufiqul Islam, Director of the Licensing Division. Ashish Kumar Kundu, Director General of the Legal and Licensing Division, and Md. Nahidul Hasan, Deputy Director, were also present. The second license was presented to Rebecca Slick Hunter by Dr. Md. Sohel Rana, Director of the Spectrum Division, in the presence of Brigadier General Md. Aminul Haque, Director General of the Spectrum Division, and Muhammad Zakaria Bhuiyan, Senior Assistant Director.
With these licenses, Starlink is poised to usher in a new era of high-speed internet connectivity in Bangladesh, aligning with the country’s digital transformation goals.
