Dhaka, May 28, 2025: The crescent moon of the Islamic month of Zilhaj has been sighted in Bangladesh, confirming that Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on June 7 (10 Zilhaj).
The decision was made during a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held at the Islamic Foundation’s conference room in Baitul Mokarram on Wednesday (May 28). The meeting was chaired by Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain.
Following the meeting, Dr. Khalid Hossain announced that the moon was sighted in eight districts despite cloudy skies and rainfall in many areas. He extended his greetings to the nation on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.
The National Moon Sighting Committee confirmed that, based on information received from district administrations, Islamic Foundation offices, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization, and other sources, the Zilhaj moon of the Hijri year 1446 was sighted in Bangladesh. Consequently, the month of Zilhaj will commence on May 29, and Eid-ul-Adha will be observed on June 7.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs stated that telephone and fax lines were kept open to receive moon-sighting reports. Information from various parts of the country enabled the committee to make a prompt decision.
The meeting was attended by the Director General of the Islamic Foundation, a representative from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the Khatib of Baitul Mokarram National Mosque, members of the Moon Sighting Committee, and senior officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
