Dhaka, May 7, 2025: The government will not raise gas and electricity prices for the time being, announced Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Adviser for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, on Wednesday. Speaking to journalists after a meeting with industrial entrepreneurs at the Secretariat, he outlined plans to import four liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes from May to August to meet energy demands.
Khan stated that gas allocation for industries will be increased by 250 million cubic feet, achieved by reallocating 150 million cubic feet from the power sector—previously set at 1,200 million cubic feet during Ramadan—and importing the four LNG cargoes.
Additionally, the government is focusing on curbing illegal electricity connections through a dedicated task force. Khan emphasized efforts to boost domestic gas exploration, with plans to drill 50 wells this year and 100 wells in the next.
