Human Trafficking Attempt Foiled at Hazrat Shahjalal Airport: Case Filed Against Chinese Citizen and Accomplice

Dhaka, May 28, 2025: In March, a marriage was solemnized with a dowry of BDT 1 million between a woman and a Chinese citizen, Hu Junjun, with assistance from Zhang Leiji and Md. Nayan Ali (30). Subsequently, without the victim's knowledge, Zhang Leiji booked a flight ticket in her name to take her to China.

The accused attempted to forcibly take the victim to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for trafficking to China on flight BS325. Following the victim's verbal complaint, the matter came to the attention of the Airport Armed Police. On Wednesday, the victim’s mother, Rashida (43), filed a case under the Human Trafficking Prevention and Suppression Act at the Airport Police Station.

Mohammad Mozammel Haque, Police Superintendent (Operations) of the Airport Armed Police Battalion, stated, “This is the second incident of a Chinese citizen being detained for human trafficking at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in recent times. We have observed that certain trafficking rings, with the help of local brokers, target women from simple and impoverished rural families, luring them with false promises to traffic them to China. Based on confidential information or complaints, we take swift action.”
He further noted that the Airport Armed Police Battalion is relentlessly working to raise public awareness and ensure the proper enforcement of laws to prevent human trafficking.
