Ishraq Demands Resignation of Asif and Mahfuz, Questions Interim Government's Neutrality

Dhaka, May 21, 2025 : Raising concerns over the neutrality of the interim government, Ishraq Hossain, a leader of BNP’s Dhaka South Metropolitan unit, has demanded the resignation of two advisors, Mahfuz Alam and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan. He alleged that conspiracies are being orchestrated against BNP to undermine its electoral prospects.

Speaking at a protest rally in Dhaka’s Kakrail on Wednesday (May 21), Ishraq stated, “The Election Commission is an independent and sovereign institution, and its decisions must be respected. However, certain individuals within the government are conspiring to ensure BNP cannot perform well in elections.”
He further accused the government of interfering in the judiciary and exerting pressure on the Election Commission, questioning how a fair national election could be held under such circumstances. “Some within the government are working to sabotage BNP’s chances,” he added.
Referring to the ousting of the previous regime, Ishraq remarked, “We fought against Hasina’s autocratic rule and sent her packing. Will we allow another autocratic government to emerge? Never. We will resist all forms of tyranny.”
On the issue of the mayoral election, Ishraq said, “I don’t understand the mayoral race. The government’s lack of neutrality is now evident to all. Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan and Mahfuz Alam must resign. They cannot stay in the government and work for their political party at the same time.”
He vowed to continue the movement until their demands are met, stating, “There is no turning back. We will not leave until our demands are fulfilled.
