Dhaka, 29 May, 2025 : The Bangladesh Army has arrested notorious criminal Liton on charges of extortion from the Old Paltan area of the capital. He had a prior case of robbery and abduction registered against him at the Jatrabari Police Station. The arrest took place on Wednesday (28 May) around 8:00 PM from a room at the New Bandhu Hotel in Old Paltan.
According to a press release by the Bangladesh Army, over the past few months, multiple complaints were received at the Gulistan Army Camp from ordinary citizens. They alleged that Liton and his accomplices were forcibly extorting money from various businessmen in the Old Paltan area and threatening their lives with weapons if they refused to pay. Additionally, on 27 September last year, a case was filed against Liton at Jatrabari Police Station for robbery and abduction. Although the police rescued the abducted person and recovered weapons during that operation, Liton managed to escape.
Based on credible intelligence, the army monitored Liton’s movements and identified him. On Wednesday night, acting on reliable information, a special patrol team from the 11 Bir (MEC) of the Bangladesh Army conducted an operation at the New Bandhu Hotel in Old Paltan. During the operation, Liton was apprehended while staying in a room at the hotel. A subsequent search of his room, office, and residence led to the recovery and seizure of five mobile phones, 2 lakh taka in cash, and 1,100 US dollars.
Liton was later handed over to the Paltan Police Station following legal procedures.
