Dhaka, May 7, 2025 :Sheikh Moinuddin, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser of the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry, has highlighted a lack of coordination among various departments within the ministry. To address this issue, weekly coordination meetings will be held, supported by specialized software to provide regular updates on projects.
Speaking at a press interaction on Wednesday at the Road Building in Tejgaon, Dhaka, Sheikh Moinuddin emphasized that departments are working in silos, focusing on individual tasks without adequate collaboration. “To resolve this, we have decided to hold weekly coordination meetings where the progress of new, ongoing, and upcoming projects will be reviewed, and immediate solutions to issues will be sought,” he said. These meetings will include representatives from all relevant departments and stakeholders.
To restore order in Dhaka’s public transport system, the long-awaited Bus Route Rationalization Project is set to launch soon. Moinuddin noted that the absence of a political government provides an opportune moment for its implementation without political pressures.
To tackle traffic congestion, a pilot project introducing a modern signaling system from High Court Intersection to Farmgate is underway. Visible progress is expected within the next two months. Students will be trained to assist in traffic management, ensuring vehicles stop at designated points and adhere to signals.
On battery-operated auto-rickshaws, Moinuddin revealed that the Local Government Ministry is formulating a new policy. Once implemented, these vehicles will be restricted to specific roads.
Addressing project costs, he announced the formation of a team to review expenditures across all projects, aiming to reduce unnecessary spending and ensure transparency. Land acquisition remains a significant challenge for project implementation, and Moinuddin stressed that future project approvals will require prior confirmation of land acquisition.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Bridges Division Secretary Mohammad Abdur Rauf, BRTC Acting Chairman Dr. Anupam Saha, BRTA Chairman Md. Yasin, Chief Engineer of Roads and Highways Department Syed Moinul Hasan, and Executive Director of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority Nilima Akhter. Representatives from Reporters for Rail and Road, including President Anwar Hossain and General Secretary Tawhidul Islam, were also present.
