Iran launched devastating missile attacks on Israel, causing significant destruction and raising fears of mass casualties. Following the barrage of ballistic missiles, at least 35 people are reported missing in Israel, particularly after an attack on a residential building in Bat Yam, near Tel Aviv. According to the Israeli newspaper Times of Israel, the attacks, which occurred in two waves late Saturday night and early Sunday morning (June 14-15, 2025), have left at least six people dead and approximately 200 injured.
The Times of Israel reported that Iran’s ballistic missile strikes targeted key Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Jerusalem. In Bat Yam, a residential building was hit, leaving 35 people unaccounted for. Local rescue teams are working urgently to locate survivors, amid concerns that the building could collapse at any moment.
Israel’s national emergency service, Magen David Adom (MDA), confirmed that around 200 people were injured in the overnight attacks. Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Medical Center reported admitting 25 injured patients, including one child, with three in moderate condition and the rest out of danger. Haifa’s Rambam Medical Center is treating 13 injured individuals, most with mild to moderate injuries, while eight others are suffering from anxiety-related trauma. Other hospitals in Tel Aviv and Haifa have also reported an influx of casualties.
Ichilov Hospital further noted that five additional patients were admitted following the latest missile strikes, with one in moderate condition and four with minor injuries.
The Iranian missile attacks are seen as a retaliation for Israel’s earlier strikes on Iranian military and nuclear facilities. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian have vowed a strong response, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the Israeli operation, dubbed “Operation Rising Lion,” aimed to neutralize Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
The escalating conflict has heightened tensions in the Middle East, with the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and other world leaders calling for both nations to cease hostilities and pursue peace through diplomacy.
