International Desk, June 12, 2025 :An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, en route from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, to London, crashed shortly after takeoff. The flight was carrying 242 passengers, and authorities fear significant loss of life.
According to Air India, the passenger manifest included 169 Indian citizens, 53 UK citizens, one Canadian citizen, and seven Portuguese citizens. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) disclosed that the pilot, Captain Sumit Savarwal, was a Line Training Captain (LTC) with 8,200 hours of flying experience. The co-pilot had 1,100 hours of flying experience.
Ahmedabad Air Traffic Control reported that the flight took off at 1:39 PM local time. Prior to the crash, Captain Sumit sent a distress signal, but no further response was received by ATC.
Boeing, the aircraft manufacturer, issued a statement acknowledging the incident and confirming that they are gathering more information about the crash of the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner
