Dhaka, June 15, 2025: Mufti Syed Mohammad Rezaul Karim, Amir of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, popularly known as Charmonai Pir, has called for clarity regarding the discussions and decisions of a private meeting in London between the Chief Adviser and BNP’s Acting Chairman. He made these remarks during a meeting with senior party leaders at the party’s Purana Paltan office on Sunday, addressing the ongoing political situation.
Charmonai Pir noted that while the London meeting could help resolve political crises, its secretive nature has caused unease among other political parties. He emphasized that the private discussion, held without representatives from other parties, has raised questions in the political arena.
To ensure political stability and address concerns, he urged that the details of the meeting be made public. He highlighted Bangladesh’s multi-party political system, stressing that all parties involved in past anti-fascist struggles deserve equal respect in shaping the country’s future. The meeting’s exclusivity, he said, has created a sense of marginalization among other political groups.
He criticized the Chief Adviser’s announcement of a short election timeline before Eid, which ignored diverse demands from political parties. The subsequent reconsideration of this timeline after the London meeting has further fueled political discomfort, he added, calling for measures to foster a healthy political culture.
Charmonai Pir reiterated Islami Andolan’s demand for fundamental reforms and justice for past fascist actions before elections, urging the government to prioritize these issues. Addressing the BNP, he acknowledged their fulfilled election expectations but sought their support for constitutional reforms to prevent future authoritarianism, including proposals like limiting the prime minister’s tenure and forming a National Conference Committee (NCC).
The meeting was attended by Secretary-General Maulana Yunus Ahmad, Presidium Members Mosaddeq Billah Al Madani and Professor Ashraf Ali Akon, and Joint Secretary-General Gazi Ataur Rahman.
