DU Students Stage Sit-in Demanding DUSU Election Roadmap

Dhaka, June 15, 2025: Students of Dhaka University, led by Bin Yamin Molla, President of Bangladesh Chhatra Adhikar Parishad, are holding a sit-in protest in front of the residence of Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, demanding a clear roadmap for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election. The protest began at 10 AM on Sunday and was later joined by Mohammad Mahtab Islam, Joint Convener of the DU branch of Chhatra Adhikar Parishad, and Sadman Abdullah, a student of the Geography and Environment Department.

Bin Yamin Molla stated, “Our sit-in will continue until a clear roadmap for DUCSU, the formation of an election commission, and the announcement of the election schedule are made.” Describing DUCSU as the heart of student demands, he added, “We are here representing general students. No more delays or excuses regarding DUCSU will be tolerated. The university administration must promptly form an election commission and announce the schedule.”
Notably, on May 21, Bin Yamin and two other student leaders staged a hunger strike in front of the VC’s residence with a three-point demand, including the DUCSU roadmap. After nearly 72 hours, they ended the strike following assurances from the Vice-Chancellor but warned of stricter actions if their demands were not met.
