Dhaka, June 16, 2025: A 10-member election commission has been formed to oversee the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections, with Professor Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin from the Department of Botany appointed as the Chief Returning Officer.
The decision was made during a syndicate meeting, the university’s highest policymaking body, held on Monday at 5:00 PM. According to a press release from the university’s public relations office, the commission was appointed by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan under Article 8(F) of the DUCSU constitution.
The other members of the election commission are: Professor Dr. ASM Mahiuddin from the Department of Soil, Water, and Environment; Professor Dr. Golam Rabbani from the Institute of Social Welfare and Research; Professor Dr. Kazi Maruful Islam from the Department of Development Studies; Professor Dr. Kazi Mostak Gausul Hoq from the Department of Information Science and Library Management; Professor Dr. Nasreen Sultana from the Institute of Health Economics; Professor Dr. Shahidul Islam from the Department of Banking and Insurance; Professor Dr. Tariq Monjur from the Department of Bangla; Professor Dr. SM Shameem Reza from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism; and Sharmeen Kabir from the Institute of Education and Research.
Notably, the number of commission members has been increased from 6 to 10 for this election to ensure transparency, acceptability, and comprehensive support in the electoral process, as stated by the university authorities.
