International Desk, June 15, 2025 : The ongoing tit-for-tat attacks between Iran and Israel have resulted in loss of lives and widespread destruction on both sides. Alongside military installations, civilian assets are also being damaged, raising fears of a full-scale war in the Middle East. The global community is largely divided on the issue. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, Pakistan, and Venezuela have accused Israel of escalating tensions and called for it to abandon its aggressive stance and pursue peace. Conversely, Western nations point to Iran’s nuclear program as the primary cause of the conflict.
In response to the crisis, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom have proposed immediate talks with Iran regarding its nuclear program to de-escalate the situation. According to Reuters, as cited by The Times of Israel, these three nations are ready to engage in discussions to calm tensions in the Middle East. German Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul stated, “I hope it is still possible. Germany, France, and Britain are ready to negotiate together. We are offering Iran immediate talks on its nuclear program.”
While on a visit to the Middle East, Wadephul emphasized his efforts to reduce conflict between Iran and Israel. He noted, “This is an important prerequisite for establishing peace in this conflict, so that Iran does not pose a threat to the region, the state of Israel, or Europe.” However, he also pointed out that Iran has previously failed to seize opportunities for constructive dialogue.
The recent escalation began with Israel’s “Operation Rising Lion” on June 13, targeting Iran’s nuclear and military facilities, resulting in 78 deaths. In response, Iran has threatened retaliatory strikes against Israel. Amid this volatile situation, the proposal by Germany, France, and the UK could play a pivotal role in reducing tensions.
