Iran Fires 20 More Missiles at Israel Amid Escalating Tensions

Iran launched approximately 20 missiles targeting various locations in Israel in its latest attack, according to Israeli military officials. The missiles were fired toward Israel in the early hours of Tuesday, following Iran’s initial missile strikes on Saturday, June 14, in retaliation for Israeli attacks.

A BBC report cited a senior Israeli military official stating, “Our air defense systems successfully identified and intercepted most of the missiles. However, some missiles landed in open areas outside our defense perimeter.”
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it successfully targeted Israel’s intelligence headquarters in Herzliya, including facilities of Mossad and Aman military intelligence. The IRGC further reported that the Mossad center was set ablaze. The strikes are part of Iran’s ongoing “True Promise-3” operation, aimed at delivering a “precise and painful blow” to Israel in response to recent Israeli attacks on Iranian cities and infrastructure.
Israeli media reported that at least five missiles struck targets in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, with one hitting Herzliya, a coastal city hosting critical Israeli security and intelligence infrastructure.
The longstanding tensions between Iran and Israel in the Middle East have intensified since the Gaza war began in October 2023, with Iran-backed groups launching multiple attacks on Israel. In April 2024, Iran directly targeted Israel with over 300 drones and missiles, marking the first direct military confrontation between the two nations. Although Israel and its allies thwarted most of those attacks, the incident sparked ongoing tit-for-tat strikes.
Analysts warn that the current escalation could spiral into a broader regional conflict. Despite calls from the United Nations and the international community for de-escalation, both nations remain in an aggressive stance.
