Mymensingh, June 11, 2025: Journalist Farzana Rupa and her husband, Shakil Ahmed, both incarcerated at Kashimpur Prison in Gazipur, were granted parole to attend the funeral of Farzana’s mother. The couple was released on parole on Wednesday (June 11) following a family request.
At around 8:30 PM, under police escort, the couple participated in the funeral proceedings at their family home in Ghagra Dariyakanda village, Mymensingh Sadar. Farzana Rupa’s mother, Hosne Ara Begum, passed away on Tuesday night at her residence in the Sehra Dhopakhala area of Mymensingh city. She was 80 years old at the time of her death and is survived by one son, five daughters, and numerous well-wishers.
The namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer) was held after Asr prayers in Ghagra Dariyakanda village. Following the prayers, the journalist couple paid their final respects to Hosne Ara Begum before her burial in the family graveyard. The moment was marked by an emotional atmosphere among the couple and their relatives. After the burial, Farzana Rupa and Shakil Ahmed were taken back to Kashimpur Prison later that night.
