Sports Desk, June 12, 2025 : The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the new captain of the national ODI team. The 27-year-old all-rounder will lead the side for the next 12 months. Expressing his feelings after receiving the captaincy, Miraz described it as a special moment in his life. “Leading the country is a dream for any cricketer. I’m grateful to the board for entrusting me with this responsibility. It’s a huge honor,” he said.
Miraz will take charge as full-time captain for the first time in a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka next month. He has previously led the team in four ODI matches in the absence of Najmul Hossain Shanto. Showing full confidence in his squad, Miraz stated, “I have complete faith in this team. We have no shortage of talent. We want to play bold and confident cricket. Inshallah, we’ll strive to give our best for the country.”
Currently ranked fourth in the ICC ODI all-rounder rankings, Miraz holds the highest ranking ever achieved by a Bangladeshi cricketer in this category. With 1,617 runs and 110 wickets in 105 ODIs, he has earned a place among Bangladesh’s elite cricketers like Mohammad Rafique, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, and Shakib Al Hasan.
As the new captain, Miraz is focused on restoring the team’s confidence, playing aggressive cricket, and delivering performances that make the nation proud.
