Bogura, June 14, 2025: A rickshaw puller named Shakil Ahmed (40) was allegedly beaten to death in Bogura city’s Fulbari area on Saturday (June 14) afternoon. The incident took place after Shakil refused a marriage proposal for his minor daughter. Shakil, son of Saju Miya, resided in the Shibbatia Shahi Masjid area of the city.
According to police and local sources, Shakil had been living as a tenant in the Shibbatia area. A local man had repeatedly proposed to marry Shakil’s teenage daughter, but Shakil declined the proposal due to the suitor’s age. Enraged by the rejection, a group of 10-15 miscreants abducted Shakil from his home and took him to the bank of the Korotoa River in Fulbari. There, he was brutally beaten and left abandoned.
Local residents rescued Shakil and rushed him to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around 5:30 PM while undergoing treatment.
Almas Ali, the in-charge of Fulbari Police Outpost, confirmed the incident and stated that two suspects have been detained. Preliminary investigations reveal that the attackers assaulted Shakil over his refusal to agree to the marriage proposal. The group reportedly planned to hand him over to the police with a knife to frame him, but fled after he sustained severe injuries.
The body has been sent for autopsy, and multiple police teams have launched operations in the area to apprehend the remaining suspects.
