Tragic Air India Crash in India Claims 204 Lives, Rescue Operations Ongoing

International Desk, June 12, 2025 : A catastrophic plane crash involving Air India Flight AI171, bound for London from Ahmedabad, India, occurred shortly after takeoff on Thursday afternoon. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a residential area, triggering a massive explosion and spreading thick black smoke across the sky. The flight was carrying a total of 242 passengers and crew members.

According to Ahmedabad’s police chief, 204 bodies have been recovered from the crash site so far. Approximately 50 injured medical students have been admitted to hospitals. The crash also damaged a doctors’ hostel in the residential area.
Air India confirmed that the flight was carrying 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, 7 Portuguese nationals, and 1 Canadian citizen.
Boeing, the aircraft manufacturer, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and stated that it is in regular contact with Air India. Britain’s King Charles issued a statement, saying he was “deeply shocked and saddened” by the tragedy.
The exact cause of the crash remains unknown. However, some experts speculate that a mechanical failure in the aircraft’s wing flaps may have contributed to the disaster. Rescue operations are still underway.
