In a devastating road accident, Abu Sahed Russel, the cousin of small-screen actress Samira Khan Mahi, lost his life. The incident occurred on Saturday night (June 28) while Russel was returning to Dhaka from Feni.
According to reports, Russel, who was like a younger brother to Mahi despite being her cousin, lived with her family. Two days prior to the accident, he had traveled to Feni to attend a friend’s wedding. On his way back, he met with the tragic accident. Despite being rushed to a hospital, he could not be saved. Mahi, deeply shaken by the loss, expressed her grief in a Facebook post on Monday afternoon, writing, “They killed my brother, and we couldn’t do anything.” In another post, she confirmed, “With profound grief, I share that my cousin, my younger brother Russel, who lived with us, lost his life in a horrific road accident.” Describing the incident, Mahi revealed, “A Noah car hit him 2-3 times, causing him to fall, and the vehicle ended up in water. After about 15 minutes, two people broke the car’s glass and pulled him out from under the water, but what followed was even more horrific.” Mahi recounted the tragic aftermath, stating that the hospital refused to admit Russel, prioritizing concerns about bills and his family’s identity over his life. “They were calculating who he was, where he came from, and whether the bills would be paid. A human life had no value to them,” she said. He was later taken to a government hospital, but the disorganized system and lack of proper treatment failed to save him. Raising poignant questions, Mahi wrote, “What should come first—a human life or calculations about money? A person lies on the road, and not a single vehicle stops—what kind of humanity is this? Have people become so heartless?” Expressing her anguish, the actress added, “This society, this healthcare system, this humanity—everything is questionable today. My brother is no longer with us, but I don’t want another family to go through this. Today it’s my brother; tomorrow it could be yours. Let humanity return, and let human lives be the priority.” Mahi has decided not to pursue legal action, explaining, “We don’t know which vehicle hit him. It struck from behind and fled. We don’t know what kind of vehicle it was. Besides, his burial took place on Sunday night around 9:30 PM. Legal action would require a postmortem, and we didn’t want his body to be cut open.”Monday, June 30, 2025
