Sirajganj, June 12, 2025 : In a tragic incident in Erandah village of Nalka Union, Raiganj Upazila, Sirajganj, a housewife named Rozina Khatun was brutally murdered by having her throat slit, after which her husband, Motalleb Hossain, attempted suicide. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday (June 12). Police recovered the victim’s body and sent it for autopsy, while Motalleb, who was injured, was admitted to a hospital.
Rozina Khatun was the daughter of Abdul Aziz from Erandah village. Her husband, Motalleb Hossain, hails from Brahmangram in Brahmagacha Union of the same upazila. Since their marriage, Motalleb had been living at his in-laws’ house with Rozina. The couple, married for about two and a half years, has an eight-month-old child.
Rozina’s cousin, Zahid Hasan, revealed that Motalleb’s family did not accept their marriage, leading him to reside at his in-laws’ house. Recently, after returning from working as a mason in Feni, tensions arose between the couple. On Wednesday night, they had a heated argument. Around 2:30 AM, Rozina’s nephew Bayezid heard cries and looked through a window to find Rozina’s bloodied body lying on the floor, with Motalleb writhing in pain nearby.
Abdul Aziz, Rozina’s father, alleged that Motalleb frequently subjected his daughter to physical and mental abuse. Humayun Kabir, Officer-in-Charge of Salanga Police Station, stated that the incident might have stemmed from domestic disputes. The police have launched an investigation, and preparations for filing a case are underway.
