Narayanganj, June 17, 2025: Police recovered the body of a young man, identified as Joni Sarker (25), from a roadside drain in Fatullah’s Purbo Shihachar Lalkha area in Narayanganj on Tuesday afternoon. The body was found tied up inside a sack, prompting a crowd of locals to gather at the scene.
Joni Sarker, son of Karuna Sarker, hailed from Bishnupur village in Jamalganj Thana, Sylhet. His father, a night guard at Fatullah’s Khan Saheb Osman Ali Cricket Stadium, said Joni, along with his mother and two sisters, lived in a rented house in the Lalkha area. Joni had been missing since 9 PM on Monday, June 16. On Tuesday morning, Karuna received news of a body found in a sack in the drain and identified it as his son after police recovered it.
According to local sources, a passerby noticed a leg protruding from a sack in the drain while heading to work in the morning and informed the Fatullah Model Police Station. Police arrived at the scene, retrieved the sack, and found Joni’s body with his hands and feet bound. Visible injury marks were observed on his face and body. The body was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for an autopsy.
Inspector (Investigation) Anwar Hossain of Fatullah Model Police Station confirmed the recovery and stated that preliminary findings suggest Joni was murdered. The exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy report is received. Police have launched an investigation to identify those involved in the incident.
