Corruption Allegations in Bangladesh Railway’s ‘Luggage Van Project’ and Mismanagement in Passenger Services

Dhaka, July 23, 2025: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an operation targeting allegations of financial mismanagement in Bangladesh Railway’s ‘Luggage Van Project’ and irregularities in passenger services. On Monday, a team from the ACC’s head office collected relevant tender documents and procurement records as part of the investigation.

During the operation, an ACC team inspected the Kishoreganj Express and Joyantika Express trains. The inspection revealed that, despite allocations for soap, handwash, tissue, and air fresheners for each coach, these items were not provided to passengers. However, the railway’s registers falsely recorded that these supplies were provided and cleaning tasks were completed.

The ACC’s inspection report noted that interviews with passengers revealed that while some AC coaches occasionally receive minimal supplies, non-AC coaches receive none. This failure disrupts passenger services and causes financial losses to the government. The ACC stated that it will verify the project-related information and take necessary legal actions upon completion of the investigation.
