Extortion Allegations: Five Leaders of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and BAGCHAS Permanently Expelled

Five leaders from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the Bangladesh Democratic Student Parliament (BAGCHAS) have been permanently expelled from their respective organizations on charges of extortion and violation of organizational policies and discipline. The decisions were announced through separate statements issued by the two organizations.

In a statement issued late Saturday night (July 26), Shahadat Hossain, the Office Secretary of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, stated that Ibrahim Hossain Munna, the Convener of the Dhaka Metropolitan Branch, along with members Md. Sakadaun Siam and Sadab, have been permanently expelled from all organizational posts for breaching organizational policies and discipline. The statement further noted that the decision was approved by the organization’s President Rifat Rashid and General Secretary Hasan Inam. All members of the organization have been instructed to refrain from maintaining any organizational ties with the expelled individuals.

Meanwhile, a statement from BAGCHAS, signed by its Office Secretary Mahfuzur Rahman, revealed that specific evidence was found confirming the direct involvement of Joint Convener Jane Alam Apu and Abdur Razzaque Bin Sulaiman (Riyad) in extortion activities under the guise of being coordinators. Based on Article 3.1 of the organization’s constitution, they were permanently expelled for actions detrimental to the organization’s reputation and discipline, as directed by Central Parliament Convener Abu Baker Mazumdar and Member Secretary Zahid Ahsan. Earlier on Saturday evening, police arrested five leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and BAGCHAS from Road No. 83 in Gulshan, Dhaka, on charges of extortion. The arrested individuals are Ibrahim Hossain Munna, Md. Sakadaun Siam, Sadab, Jane Alam Apu, and Abdur Razzaque Bin Sulaiman (Riyad). According to the police, they were attempting to extort money by using the title of "coordinator." They are currently in custody at Gulshan Police Station.
