Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain has departed for the United States to participate in an international conference at the United Nations headquarters aimed at addressing the Palestine crisis.
On Sunday morning, he left Dhaka to attend the “High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution,” scheduled for July 28 and 29. The ministerial-level conference is being jointly organized by France and Saudi Arabia under UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/79/81 (December 2024).
In addition to the conference, Touhid Hossain will hold meetings with ministers from various countries and senior UN officials. These discussions will focus on advancing the two-state solution amid the escalating humanitarian and political crisis in Gaza.
Foreign Ministry officials confirmed that the Adviser will return to Bangladesh in the early hours of August 1.
A senior ministry official stated on Saturday that Touhid Hossain will reaffirm Bangladesh’s unwavering support for the rights of the Palestinian people and the effective implementation of the two-state solution. Bangladesh will also reiterate its commitment to international law, the UN Charter, and relevant resolutions of the Security Council and General Assembly.
The official further noted that Bangladesh will call for the formulation of a credible and time-bound roadmap to achieve sustainable peace in the Middle East.
The UN conference is seen as a critical effort to build global consensus on Gaza’s governance, ensuring unhindered humanitarian aid, and recognizing the State of Palestine.
Bangladesh has consistently voiced strong support for Palestine in international forums. It was among the first countries to recognize the State of Palestine following its declaration of independence in 1988.
