The world football governing body, FIFA, released the latest men’s national team rankings today (Thursday). Bangladesh, led by Jamal Bhuiyan, has slipped one spot from 183 to 184 in the rankings.
In the June window, Bangladesh played two matches. They defeated Bhutan 2-0, but in a crucial home match for the Asian Cup qualifiers, they suffered a 1-2 defeat against Singapore. A victory against Singapore could have positively impacted Bangladesh’s ranking.
The Bangladesh-Singapore match in the Asian Cup qualifiers generated significant excitement among football fans, with high expectations for a home victory. However, Singapore’s 1-2 win left Bangladesh disappointed. Former star footballers and top coaches in the country have directly blamed Spanish head coach Javier Cabrera for the loss.
In the FIFA rankings, Argentina continues to hold the top spot, followed by Spain, France, England, and Brazil. UEFA Nations League champions Portugal have climbed one spot to sixth, while the Netherlands have dropped to seventh. Belgium remains in eighth place, with Germany and Croatia each moving up one spot to ninth and tenth, respectively.
