In Goaland, Rajbari, a shocking revelation came to light after one and a half months of marital life: the bride, Mahmudul Hasan Shanto married, turned out to be a man.
On Friday evening (July 25), the disclosure created a massive stir in the local community.
According to local sources, the so-called bride, Samia, is actually Mohammad Shahinur Rahman, son of Abul Kashem from the Bou Bazaar area of Amtala Eidgah in Chattogram. Shahinur had been posing as a woman named Samia on Facebook for a long time, building a persona that led to a romantic relationship with Shanto. On June 7, Shahinur arrived at Shanto’s home, and with the consent of Shanto’s family, their marriage was solemnized in the presence of locals and a cleric.
For the next one and a half months, Samia lived with Shanto’s family as a bride, with no one suspecting the truth. However, recent peculiar behavior raised doubts in the minds of Shanto and his family. On Friday afternoon, it was confirmed that Samia was, in fact, a man. The news spread rapidly, causing an uproar in the area and going viral on social media.
Shanto told the media, “I met Samia through Facebook, and we developed a romantic relationship. She suddenly came to our house, and we got married with my family’s approval. Since she didn’t have a national ID card, the marriage wasn’t registered. Her behavior was mysterious from the start. Whenever I tried to get close, she would say she was unwell and that the doctor had advised against it.”
Shanto’s mother, Mosa. Sohagi Begum, said, “A man lived in our house as a bride, and we didn’t suspect a thing. He won our hearts with his acting.”
Following the revelation, Shahinur was sent back to his home on Saturday morning (July 26) by Shanto’s family.
Shahinur Rahman, alias Samia, admitted, “What I did to Shanto was wrong. I have hormonal issues, which is why I feel better identifying as a woman.”
