On Thursday (July 25), Starlink, the satellite-based internet service owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, faced a significant outage. The disruption, lasting approximately two and a half hours, affected thousands of users across various regions worldwide, leaving them without internet connectivity. Both Elon Musk and senior Starlink officials have issued apologies for the inconvenience.
Michael Nicolls, Vice President of Starlink’s Engineering Department, stated that the outage began at 3:00 PM local time on the U.S. East Coast. According to internet monitoring firm Downdetector, over 61,000 users reported issues during this period.
Starlink, which currently serves over 6 million users in approximately 140 countries and regions with high-speed internet, has launched more than 8,000 satellites since 2020. These satellites operate in low Earth orbit, forming a robust and expansive network.
