Uttara Tragedy: Death Toll Rises to 32, Many in Critical Condition

The death toll from the crash of a Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet into Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, has risen to 32. Many of those injured in the incident, who suffered severe burns, remain in critical condition in hospitals.

According to information provided by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) and the Health Ministry, the number of casualties has been confirmed. Among the victims, a child named Nafi passed away around 1:00 AM Tuesday at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

As of 12:00 PM Tuesday, ISPR reported 31 deaths and at least 165 injuries. The Health Ministry stated that at least 40 individuals are critically injured. Sources involved in rescue operations and hospital reports indicate that many of the deceased suffered severe burns, with some bodies so badly charred that identification was not immediately possible. On Tuesday morning, Professor Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, announced that the bodies of 20 victims had been handed over to their families. **Many in Critical Condition** According to ISPR, a total of 165 people were injured in the incident. They are receiving treatment at various hospitals: 8 at Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Hospital, 46 at the Burn Institute, 3 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, 28 at CMH, 13 at Lubna General Hospital, 60 at Uttara Adhunik Hospital, 1 at Uttara Crescent Hospital, 1 at Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital, 2 at United Hospital, and 3 at Kurmitola General Hospital.
Sources report that a significant number of the injured are burn victims, with many having over 50% of their bodies burned or suffering damage to their respiratory systems due to fire exposure. These patients remain in critical condition.
