Youth Hacked to Death in Gendaria’s Dayaganj

In Dhaka’s Gendaria area, a young man named Ariful Islam Babu (35) was hacked to death in the early hours of Sunday, July 27, 2025, around 5:30 AM.

According to police and the victim’s relatives, a group of miscreants attacked Ariful near the Dayaganj railway line, severely injuring him. Local residents rescued him and initially took him to a nearby hospital. He was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 8:00 AM.

Nazma Begum, a relative of Ariful’s wife, stated that Ariful had gone to a shop to buy cigarettes in the early morning when four to five individuals, including Robin, Shahin, Masud, and Kader, attacked and hacked him. Ariful sustained injuries to his head and both hands, and the attackers took his mobile phone. Gendaria Police Station Sub-Inspector Amir Hossain told that preliminary investigations suggest the murder may have stemmed from prior enmity. The body has been sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy. Efforts are underway to gather more details about the incident.

Ariful, originally from Balurchar village in Jazira Upazila, Shariatpur district, was the son of Sekendar Ali. He lived with his wife and family in a rented house near the gas pump in Gendaria’s Mirhajirbag, Dayaganj. Ariful owned a CNG-powered autorickshaw.
