Bangladesh U-20 Women’s Team Crushes Timor-Leste with Dominant Victory

The Bangladesh U-20 women’s football team continues its scintillating form in the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers. After defeating Laos 3-1 in their opening match, the red-green brigade thrashed Timor-Leste 8-0 in their second group stage match on Friday (August 8). The goal-fest saw Trisha Rani score a hat-trick, while Shanti Mardi delivered a stunning Olympic goal.

Bangladesh netted four goals in each half. Trisha opened the scoring in injury time of the first half and completed her hat-trick with goals in the 53rd and 83rd minutes of the second half. Her final goal was a clinical finish, capitalizing on a brilliant assist from Sagarika to slot the ball into an open net. Earlier, in the 72nd minute of the second half, Sagarika herself scored a spectacular goal, dribbling past a defender from midfield and finishing with precision. The forward had also scored a brace in the previous match. The match’s standout moment came from Shanti Mardi in the 32nd minute of the first half. Her corner kick curled directly into the net without touching any player, a rare feat known as an “Olympic goal,” leaving spectators in awe. Just three minutes later, another corner from Shanti led to a goal, with Nobirun heading the ball into the net. Three of Bangladesh’s four first-half goals came from corners—one from Swapna’s delivery headed in by Shikha, and two from Shanti’s precise kicks. In the second half, Bangladesh’s attacking unit showcased their sharpness with goals from open play. The final goal came from Munki Akter in the dying moments, sealing the 8-0 victory as the referee blew the final whistle. With this win, Bangladesh has secured 6 points from two matches, boasting a goal difference of +10. Their final group stage match is against formidable South Korea. While a win or draw against South Korea may be challenging, Bangladesh aims to maintain their goal difference to secure a spot in the main tournament as one of the best runners-up.
