Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has stated that BNP is the only party capable of saving Bangladesh. He made these remarks on Sunday (August 31) during a discussion meeting held at the Engineers Institution Auditorium in the capital.
Mirza Fakhrul alleged that certain groups are attempting to steer the country in a different direction through various means. He also claimed that efforts are being made to disrupt the upcoming elections. He further stated that threats are being issued against holding elections under the proportional representation (PR) system. However, he emphasized that the people of Bangladesh will not bow to such threats. He expressed confidence that if a government is established through elections, Tarique Rahman will become the Prime Minister, and BNP will come to power.
Meanwhile, Hafizuddin Ahmed, a member of BNP’s Standing Committee, alleged that national and international conspiracies are underway to obstruct the elections. He claimed that Indian agents are active within the country and that Jamaat-e-Islami’s stance is part of this conspiracy. He further warned that the Awami League will engage in various terrorist activities to disrupt the elections, and all anti-national activities must be dealt with firmly.
On the other hand, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, another Standing Committee member, stated that reforms not understood by the people will not be accepted. He expressed concerns about the elections, noting that the government and the Election Commission lack sufficient sincerity. He added that while the fascist government has fallen, fascism itself has not been eradicated. Despite the goodwill of the government and the Election Commission, public apprehension will persist until the elections are held.
At the same event, Standing Committee member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain alleged that conspiracies are afoot to delay the elections. He claimed that both domestic and foreign groups, including remnants of the fallen fascist regime, are plotting to obstruct the elections. He further noted that a certain group within the country is also conspiring to disrupt the electoral process.
