Jamalpur, August 19, 2025: Police have arrested Abu Said (35), a BNP leader, in connection with an attack on police to free a drug dealer in Madarganj, Jamalpur. Abu Said, the general secretary of Ward No. 9 of Char Pakardaha Union BNP and son of Alhaj Nurul Islam, was sent to jail on Tuesday (August 19) following a court order.
Madarganj Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saifullah Saif confirmed the development. According to police and local sources, on August 17 at around 10 p.m., police conducted a raid in the Bangla Bazar area of Char Pakardaha Union based on a tip-off and arrested Nasir Miah with 33 pieces of yaba tablets. While escorting Nasir to the police station, his neighbors and relatives attacked the police in Bangla Bazar, freeing Nasir along with a pair of handcuffs and a police diary. Two Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) were injured in the attack.
A case was filed by the police, naming eight individuals, including Abu Said, and 60 others as unidentified accused. Abu Said was arrested from his home and produced in court on Tuesday, which ordered his imprisonment. So far, five individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The previously arrested individuals include Md. Azizul Haque Babu (32), Md. Rasel (34), Swapan (28), and Suja Mondal (55), all residents of West Char Pakardaha village. They confessed to their involvement in freeing the accused during initial interrogations and were granted five days of remand by the court.
Golam Kibria Biplob Tarafdar, president of Char Pakardaha Union BNP, stated that the party is investigating Abu Said’s involvement. If found guilty, organizational action will be taken against him.
OC Saifullah Saif added that police are reviewing video footage to identify the main culprits, and operations to arrest other suspects are ongoing. All five arrested individuals are currently in jail.
