Clash Between Dhaka and City College Students Again, Ramna DC Seeks Permanent Solution

Another clash broke out between students of Dhaka College and City College in the capital’s New Market area on Thursday (August 21) afternoon. Several students from both sides were reportedly injured. Similar clashes between students of these two institutions have occurred multiple times in the past. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP’s Ramna Division, Md. Masud Alam, has called for a permanent solution to this recurring issue.

Speaking to journalists at the scene on Thursday afternoon, Masud Alam said, “Such incidents happen frequently. Even minor issues spark tension between these two colleges. We will discuss this with the principals of both colleges. This time, we want to identify the root cause. These clashes cause suffering to the general public. When students confront each other, any kind of incident can occur. We want a permanent solution to this problem.”

He added, “After today’s clash, police positioned themselves between the two groups. As a result, students from Dhaka College and City College retreated to their respective campuses. The police are maintaining a strict stance to keep the situation under control, and traffic movement is now normal.” Regarding the cause of the clash, the Ramna DC said, “Three days ago, a scuffle broke out between students of the two colleges at Udbhash Coaching Center over an ID card issue, involving slaps and physical altercations. The following day, tensions flared again, though the matter was later resolved. We thought the issue was settled, but a new clash erupted today. Questioning the students present at the scene will help uncover the real cause.” The injured students are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, according to the police official.
