Hamas, the Palestinian militant group, has expressed outrage over Israel’s plan to evacuate Gaza City residents, warning that it could lead to a new wave of "genocide" and mass displacement. The statement was issued on Sunday, August 17, 2025.Israeli forces announced preparations to supply tents and other materials starting Sunday to relocate residents from combat zones to southern Gaza, claiming the move is to ensure civilian safety. Hamas, in a statement, condemned the plan as “blatant deception” to mask “heinous crimes” by the occupying forces under the guise of humanitarian aid.
Earlier this month, Israel declared its intent to launch a new operation to take control of northern Gaza City, the region’s largest urban center with a population of approximately 2.2 million. The plan has raised international concerns about worsening the humanitarian crisis.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages, according to Israeli authorities. Of the hostages, 50 remain in Gaza, with an estimated 20 still alive. In retaliation, Israel began relentless attacks on Gaza starting the same day. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, over 61,000 Palestinians have been killed, and the majority of Gaza’s population has been displaced. Much of the Gaza Strip lies in ruins, with severe food shortages gripping the region.
