Dhaka, August 25, 2025: The Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (DUDOK), Mohammad Abdul Momen, has warned that strict measures will be taken against the use of black money in the upcoming national parliamentary election. He stated that there is no scope for using illicit funds in the election, and DUDOK will deploy special teams to monitor and curb such activities if necessary.
Speaking to journalists at DUDOK’s head office in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, on Monday, Momen emphasized that any attempt to exploit legal loopholes to use black money would face consequences. He noted that DUDOK, along with other government agencies, will remain vigilant to control the flow of illicit funds during the election.
Momen highlighted that elections often lead to increased spending tendencies, including attempts to buy votes, a practice prevalent in the country. “There are two sides to this issue: the demand side and the supply side. We need to stop the supply side, where banks and DUDOK have a role to play. We will do our best to keep it under control,” he said.
He also expressed concerns that an influx of illegal money could contribute to inflation, posing further economic challenges.
Urging the public and media to report any discrepancies in candidates’ asset declarations, Momen said, “After the submission of affidavits, we have limited time to verify information. If the media or anyone else has evidence of candidates hiding information, please share it with us.”
The DUDOK chairman called on citizens to raise their voices against corrupt candidates, stating, “We don’t want corrupt MP candidates.” He also affirmed the government’s commitment to holding a fair election, adding that preparations are underway, and the election is expected to take place on schedule.
