In Rajbari, an individual posing as a Detective Branch (DB) police officer abducted and robbed a Singapore expatriate. Following a filed case, police conducted an operation and arrested a suspect named Selim Khan (40), who was posing as a DB officer.
On Monday (August 18), Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops), Md. Sharif Al Rajib, confirmed the incident through a press release.
According to the case details, on May 5 at around 11 AM, a Singapore expatriate named Abu Hanif Khan withdrew 1 lakh taka from the Agrani Bank’s Ahladipur branch. While traveling by easy-bike from Goalanda Mor toward Khankhanapur Bazar, he was intercepted near the Khankhanapur Anjuman-e-Kaderia Khanka Mosque on the Dhaka-Khulna highway. A group posing as DB police abducted him from a private car, robbed him of 1.1 lakh taka, and left him in the Kutirhat Akh Center area of Shahidwahabpur Union in Sadar Upazila before fleeing. Local residents rescued the expatriate after hearing his cries for help. On May 8, the victim filed a case at Sadar Police Station.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rajbari District Detective Branch, Mofizul Islam, stated that following the case, an investigation was launched. Using information technology, the police identified and arrested Selim Khan in Omed Ali Para, Goalanda. During the operation, authorities recovered and seized a private car used in the robbery, two walkie-talkies, two steel machetes, and 10,000 taka in cash from his residence.
