Father and Groom Arrested for Forcing 13-Year-Old Girl into Marriage in Munshiganj

Munshiganj, August 31, 2025: Police have arrested Soleman Khan, the father of a 13-year-old girl, and Alam Fakir, her husband, for forcibly marrying the minor in Shrinagar, Munshiganj. The arrests were made on Saturday night in the Ardi Para area of Shrinagar Upazila.

According to reports, Soleman Khan had been in a longstanding family dispute with his wife’s relatives. As a result, the girl and her mother, Nupur Begum, had been living at her maternal grandparents’ home in Basailbhog village, Shrinagar Upazila. On August 22, Soleman Khan tricked his daughter into returning to his home in Ardi Para village and forcibly married her off that same night to Alam Fakir, the son of Danesh Fakir, a neighbor.

Nupur Begum, the girl’s mother, stated that her husband married off their underage daughter without her knowledge. “Five days ago, I learned my daughter was unwell and brought her to my home under the pretext of taking her to a doctor. She is currently very sick,” she said.

Shrinagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Nazmul Huda Khan confirmed that, following a complaint from Nupur Begum, Alam Fakir was arrested on charges of rape, and Soleman Khan was arrested for abetting the crime. A case has been filed against three individuals, including the girl’s stepmother, in connection with the incident.
