Former Chhatra League Leader Appointed as Senior Joint Convener in Dhaka University Chhatra Dal

An allegation has surfaced that a former leader of the banned organization Chhatra League has been included in a significant position in the hall branch committee of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal.

On Friday (August 8), Chhatra Dal announced new convening committees for its 18 hall branches at Dhaka University. Among them, Nitu Rani Saha has been appointed as the Senior Joint Convener of the Shamsun Nahar Hall committee. She previously served as the Deputy Public Relations Secretary of the same hall’s Chhatra League branch.

This incident has sparked widespread criticism among university students. The issue is being discussed with sarcasm and mockery in various Dhaka University student groups on Facebook. Shariful Islam, a student at Dhaka University, commented, “If Chhatra Dal wishes, they can form a separate rehabilitation committee for Chhatra League, where all hall-based Chhatra League members can be accommodated.” Addressing the issue, Dhaka University Chhatra Dal President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahas told Dhaka Post, “In the committee formation process of a democratic student organization like Chhatra Dal, it is not always possible to assign desired positions to all qualified activists due to multiple candidates vying for the same role. Forming hall committees often involves making tough and challenging decisions. We hope everyone will remain dedicated to the organization and its ideals while fulfilling their responsibilities.” He further stated, “If anyone included in the newly announced committee is found to be involved in unethical activities or has concealed information during the member form submission or committee formation process, appropriate organizational measures will be taken against them after a thorough investigation.”
Efforts to contact the Chhatra Dal General Secretary for further comments were unsuccessful.
