New Delhi, August 25, 2025 – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is seeking a new lead sponsor for the national men’s and women’s cricket teams after Dream11, a major fantasy sports gaming platform, terminated its $43.6 million sponsorship deal. The decision follows a recent Indian government ban on online gambling, according to reports on Monday.
Dream11, India’s largest online gaming platform, signed a three-year sponsorship deal with the BCCI in July 2023, with its logo featured on the jerseys of Indian cricket players. The platform also sponsors several Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises, the Caribbean Premier League, and Australia’s Big Bash League.
Last week, the Indian parliament passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, which criminalizes offering and financing online gaming, with penalties including up to five years in prison. Following this, Dream11 representatives informed BCCI chief executive Hemang Amin that they could no longer continue the sponsorship, as reported by *The Indian Express*.
A BCCI official, quoted by the newspaper, confirmed that Dream11 will not sponsor the team for the upcoming T20 Asia Cup, starting September 9 in the United Arab Emirates. The BCCI plans to float a new tender for a lead sponsor soon. “There’s not much time left for the Asia Cup, but we are exploring options,” a board official told the *Sportstar* website.
The government’s ban targets platforms for card games, poker, and fantasy sports, including India’s popular fantasy cricket apps. Authorities cited financial distress, addiction, suicides among youth, and links to fraud, money laundering, and terrorism financing as reasons for the legislation.
