Police have recovered the throat-slit body of Nazrul Islam (40), a leader of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s affiliate organization, from the roadside in Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj upazila. The body was found on Sunday morning in the Shital village of Nakai Union.
The deceased, Nazrul Islam, was the son of the late Tofazzal Hossain from the same village. He served as the ward president of the Shital village unit of the Gobindaganj Upazila Shramik Kalyan Federation, an affiliate of Jamaat-e-Islami.
According to police and local sources, Nazrul Islam ran a mobile banking business at Jamtali Bazar in Shital village. On Saturday afternoon, he left home for his shop but did not return that night, prompting his family to search for him. On Sunday morning, locals spotted his throat-slit body lying near the bazaar and informed the police. The police recovered the body and sent it to Gaibandha General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Confirming the incident, Gobindaganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bulbul Islam said the victim’s throat was cut with a sharp weapon. “We initially suspect that the murder may be linked to prior enmity. We are investigating whether there is any political or business-related motive behind the killing,” he added. The police are working to determine the cause of the murder, and preparations for filing a case are underway.
