In a shocking incident, Mohammad Jasim Uddin (45) was brutally hacked to death inside his home in Cox’s Bazar’s Pekua Upazila on Saturday night. The incident took place in the Segunbagicha area of Jarulbonia, Shilkhali Union. According to locals, the attackers used a rooster’s crow to lure Jasim into opening his door, after which 7-8 armed individuals entered and killed him.
Jasim, son of Nur Ahmad from Majherghona, had been living with his family in the hilly Segunbagicha area for over a decade. On Sunday morning, police detained two suspects, Monsur Alam (45) and Zakirul Islam (55), both from Sapergara in Jarulbonia.
Local residents reported that around 1:30 AM, the assailants entered Jasim’s home and attacked him with sharp weapons, targeting his ears, neck, and head. His wife, Selina Akhtar, fled to a neighbor’s house in panic and fainted. After regaining consciousness, she informed neighbors, who found Jasim’s body inside the house.
Selina told reporters that the attackers brought a rooster, which crowed, leading her to believe someone was stealing their poultry. When she opened the door, 7-8 individuals stormed in and killed her husband. She alleged that the murder was linked to a dispute involving her son, who lives in Malaysia and had a romantic relationship with a local girl. The girl recently eloped, and her family filed a complaint against Jasim’s family at the police station, which Selina believes led to the killing.
Shilkhali Union Parishad member Ahmad Shafi confirmed that a police team visited the scene on Sunday morning, recovered the body, and sent it to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Pekua Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Sirajul Mustafa stated that two individuals have been detained in connection with the murder. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are being interrogated.
