Massive Drug Haul in Capital, 5 Arrested

The Directorate of Narcotics Control (DNC) and Bangladesh Customs conducted multiple operations across various areas of the capital, recovering a significant amount of narcotic substances. The seizures included 1.6 kg of crystal meth (ice), 4,000 yaba tablets, 280 grams of kush, and 8.6 kg of cocaine. Five individuals, including both local and foreign drug traffickers, were arrested during these operations.

According to sources from the DNC Dhaka Metro Office (North), a team led by Deputy Director Shamim Ahmed conducted a raid on Monday at a residence in Baitul Aman Housing Society under Adabar police station, based on confidential information. There, Md. Khairul Islam alias Riyan (26) was apprehended with 4,000 amphetamine-laced yaba tablets. Based on Riyan's information, another raid was conducted in the Shekhertek area of Adabar, where 1.6 kg of the highly dangerous drug methylamphetamine (ice) was recovered from the possession of Milan Molla, a suspect in multiple drug-related cases. A case has been filed under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018, against Milan Molla, as well as absconding suspects Saurav Islam Shanto alias Tofayel Hossain Shanto and Yasmin Akter Ankhi. The DNC identified Saurav Islam Shanto as a listed "godfather" with multiple cases related to drugs and arms. On August 25, a team led by DNC Deputy Director Md. Mehedi Hasan raided the old post office in Paltan Model police station, recovering 280 grams of tetrahydrocannabinol-laced kush. Md. Shahidul Islam (45) was arrested at the scene, and based on his information, Shukur Mohammad Ripon (50) was also detained. Additionally, in a joint operation by Bangladesh Customs and DNC at 5:30 AM on Tuesday, Karen Petula, a citizen of Guyana, was arrested with 8.6 kg of cocaine at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
