Mirpur Wallet Theft: Youth Arrested with $300 from Chinese Citizen
Police have arrested a 27-year-old youth named Md. Antu in connection with the theft of a wallet belonging to a Chinese citizen in Dhaka’s Mirpur area. The arrest was made during a raid in the Mirpur-10 area on Wednesday morning. According to police, $300 stolen from the Chinese citizen was recovered from Antu.Previously, another suspect, Sabbir (19), was arrested in the same case. Police stated that Antu was apprehended based on information provided by Sabbir. Mirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Sajjad Roman told Prothom Alo that on the evening of August 17, a Chinese tourist was walking near the north side of the Mirpur-10 metro rail station when his wallet was stolen. The wallet contained 30,000 Bangladeshi Taka, $400 in U.S. currency, and a bank card. A friend of the Chinese tourist, Zinnatul, filed a case at Mirpur Model Police Station. The police reviewed CCTV footage and used information technology to identify the perpetrators. OC Sajjad Roman added that on August 21, Sabbir was arrested during a raid in the Chhalantika slum area of Rupnagar, Dhaka, with 2,500 Taka of the stolen money recovered from him. On Wednesday morning, another raid in Mirpur-10 led to Antu’s arrest, and $300 of the stolen money was recovered from his possession. Police revealed that both Sabbir and Antu have multiple cases filed against them in various police stations.
