Police in Cumilla city have recovered the bodies of a mother and her daughter from their bedroom. The son of the deceased mother and his wife have been detained in connection with the incident. The bodies were recovered on Sunday (August 31, 2025) afternoon from their residence in the Rampur area of Ward No. 21, Cumilla city.
The deceased have been identified as Lutfa Begum (70), wife of Abu Taher from the Ramnagar area, and her daughter Shilpi Akter (40), who was separated from her husband. Lutfa Begum’s son, Shahin, and his wife, Lucky Akter, have been detained for questioning.
Saiful Islam, the In-Charge of Cumilla EPZ Police Outpost, confirmed the incident. According to police, citing local sources, there had been ongoing family disputes between Lutfa Begum, her daughter Shilpi Akter, and Shahin’s wife, Lucky Akter, in the Ramnagar area. A quarrel reportedly took place between them on Saturday afternoon as well. On Sunday afternoon, news of the two deaths spread, prompting locals to detain Shahin and Lucky and inform the police. The police arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies, and took Shahin and Lucky into custody for questioning.
Inspector Saiful Islam told, “We reached the scene after being informed by locals. However, the exact time and cause of the deaths are not yet clear. The bodies have been sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The detained individuals will be interrogated.”
