On June 26, the first day of the HSC exams, Anisa, a student from Laboratory School and College, arrived an hour late at the exam center. A photo of her crying outside the center went viral on social media, with claims that she was delayed because she had to take her mother, who had suffered a stroke, to the hospital.
Sources from the Dhaka Education Board revealed that Anisa Ahmed, a candidate at the Mirpur Bangla College center in the capital, will not be allowed to sit for the Bangla First Paper exam. Following instructions from the Ministry of Education, two separate teams from the Dhaka Board conducted investigations and submitted reports to the ministry. The reports found no evidence to support Anisa’s claims. Multiple sources from the Education Ministry and Dhaka Board confirmed that the narrative surrounding Anisa on social media was not entirely accurate.
Despite several attempts to contact Anisa for her statement, she did not respond.
Following the incident, Education Adviser Professor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar had initially stated that arrangements would be made for the student to take the exam. However, inquiries with the Education Ministry and Dhaka Education Board revealed that no governmental decision has been made to allow Anisa Ahmed to sit for the Bangla First Paper exam, and there is no likelihood of such a decision being made.
Professor Khandaker Ehsanul Kabir, Chairman of the Dhaka Education Board, said there is no decision regarding this matter. He added, “If a student scores 66 marks in a subject they couldn’t attend, they can still pass.”
